Mental health center extends hours
News Courier - 3/19/2017
March 18--Those who receive treatment from the Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama in Limestone, Lawrence and Morgan counties should benefit from extended hours, an official said.
The Athens-Limestone Counseling Center at 1307 E. Elm St. is now open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays.
Bill Giguere, development officer for the MHCNCA, said clinics had typically already reduced hours on Friday because fewer patients were coming in. On the other hand, he said closing before 5 p.m. during the week made it difficult for those who work until 5 to get to a clinic before it closed.
"It's just easier for people to come in after work," he said, adding the shift in hours was first tried in Decatur last year and received a positive response. "We're always looking at things we can do to be more efficient and be better for our clients."
Last year the MHCNCA provided services to almost 4,000 people in the region.
"The need for services is consistent," Giguere said.
