Fundraiser for Comox Valley Child Development Association Autism Centre

Comox Valley Record - 5/7/2018

The Comox Valley Child Development Association (CVCDA) recently introduced its new Autism Centre to the Comox Valley during a Chamber of Commerce mixer.

Local resident Sherryl Carroll was moved by the news, as her family has been affected by autism and wanted to help raise funds. Carroll, in conjunction with her sister, Canadian recording artist Cathy Hutch — who has a 33-year-old daughter on the autism spectrum – are organizing a fundraiser to benefit the new Autism Centre on May 18 at the Griffin Pub in Comox. Tickets are $10 each and include a copy of Hutch's single, I'm in Here – a song she wrote specifically for families who have been touched by autism. The single has since been adopted worldwide as the anthem for autism.

Hutch is a long-recognized Canadian musician hailing from Saint John, NB, and has such accolades under her already burgeoning belt such as being a finalist in CBC's Galaxie of Rising Stars, receiving the London Award for most outstanding artist contributing to her community, as well as performing with Carroll Baker.

Hutch is presently on a cross-country tour to promote her new CD, entitled Free Wheelin,' produced by the legendary Paul Milner (whose client repertoire includes other artists such as Keith Richards, Glass Tiger and the Bee Gees.)

When Hutch learned of Carroll's idea for the fundraiser, she also donated 160 copies of the single, I'm In Here, that will be available for purchase at the CVCDA office for $5 after May 14, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the Autism Centre.

Here is a video of I'm In Here (video via Cathy's Facebook page).

Don't miss Hutch as she blows the roof off the Griffin on Friday, May 18 and hear some of your favourite classic rock covers mixed with her biggest original hits. A full house is expected with 50 per cent of tickets already sold.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Griffin Pub, the CVCDA office at (237 Third St. in Courtenay, or by contacting Carroll at sherryl.carroll7@gmail.com.
