ASD announces free lunch sites for kids during school closure

Auburn Reporter - 3/14/2020

One of the Auburn School District's top priorities during the long closure ahead will be to provide meals for all students.

So, starting Monday March 16 and continuing on, ASD will provide breakfast and lunch to any child ages 1-18 years at every school site, according to a district notice to parents Friday afternoon.

Students need not qualify for free-or-reduced lunch to receive a meal. Meals will be available for pick up at each school from 8:30-9:30 a.m., and from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every week day. Any student will be served at any school, even if he or she is not enrolled in that school or in the Auburn School District.

Meals are to be taken home; students won't be able to eat at the school site.

The district can provide one breakfast and one lunch per child per day. Kids can receive a breakfast and a lunch meal at the same time, but only one of each per day. If lunch is picked up at breakfast time, it will be a cold meal.

The district will continue to monitor community needs and may have to adjust serving locations and times after March 20. It will provide updated information via its normal communication channels.

Continue to monitor the website, social media and email for updated information on available sites and service times.
